Susan Griffith Mackenbach

Susan MackenbachSusan's passion for Pilates as a way to cross train led her to become a certified comprehensive Pilates Instructor in 2009 through the Body Arts and Science International Academy. After herniating a disc, and discovering spinal stenosis and degeneration, Susan used Pilates as a form of rehabilitation. Strengthening the core, improving balance, flexibility and stability helped her to reduce further injury and increase endurance.

Susan has taken additional courses in Jump Board, Pilates for Children, Pilates utilizing the Avalon System (a specialized pieces of equipment), Pilates for Men and Pilates for Athletes. Additionally, she holds Certifications in the following courses:
Pilates for Injuries and Pathologies and the Mentor Program (Refining the Advanced Repertoire) taught by Rael Isacowitz, the founder of BASI Pilates.

Susan enjoys teaching beginning students, children and senior clients. She also enjoys teaching those who are pregnant and people coming off injuries to rehabilitate their bodies and is comfortable with their special needs.

Susan was born and raised in the Southern California area. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern California in 1981. Community involvement and service has been important to her in the Long Beach and Palos Verdes Peninsula communities.

Susan is a trained hospice volunteer as well. Susan is the proud mother of Kate and Dieter, both Chadwick alums, and has been married to Dave for 30 years.

Susan enjoys cooking, gardening, traveling and cycling while not teaching.
